Mortgage segment drives Arch profits up despite (re)insurance UW losses

A diversifying benefit of a significant increase in underwriting profits at Arch Capital Group’s mortgage segment helped offset underwriting losses in its P&C insurance and reinsurance divisions driven by $335.9mn of pre-announced cat losses as operating profits jumped in the third quarter.
