Trubshaw also placed third in this year’s overall ranking of leading London underwriters, a peer nomination-based survey conducted by Insurindex, a joint venture between Gracechurch and Brandex.

The MAP team once again placed second in the reinsurance bench strength rankings, as its ongoing contest with Chaucer saw the Chinese-owned Lloyd’s insurer assume the top spot in three out of the last four years.

From the leading team, Chaucer’s head of US casualty treaty Mike Clifton was ranked fifth in the individual reinsurance underwriters ranking.

Newcomer Ian Sawyer polled second, having served as London head of US casualty reinsurance since June last year.

He previously held this role at Catlin, returning to the Axa XL unit following a five year stint at Sirius Group.

Fellow newcomer to the top three in the reinsurance class was Beazley’s focus group lead, Americas treaty Jamie Curtis. Curtis joined Beazley in 2007 as property treaty underwriter.

Rivalling Trubshaw in seniority, Ascot’s group chief underwriting officer Mark Pepper was ranked fourth. Pepper joined Ascot at its inception in 2001 to lead the treaty team, and he was promoted to CUO in 2009.

Elsewhere, Talbot Underwriting’s head of international property Ollie Richards topped the property class rankings, having also featured fifth in London’s overall leading underwriters.

The Talbot property team placed second in their property shortlist debut, with the Tokio Marine Kiln team once again taking the top spot.

On an individual basis, TMK’s commercial property underwriter Neil Robertson closed out the top three, alongside Faraday’s Nick West.

This marks the third consecutive year that West has placed inside the top three for the property class. Last year, West made headlines for ousting MAP’s Trubshaw from his six-year streak as London’s leading overall underwriter.

MAP underwriting partner Paul Mason took fourth ranking in the property class as a new face on the shortlist, with the top five closed out by Ark Syndicate Management’s senior underwriter Tim Hankey.

This year, Ark was ranked as the joint third property underwriting team with Brit.
