Canopius has once-again returned to lead the accident and health (A&H) underwriting bench strength table in the London’s Leading Underwriter survey for 2024, with the individual ranking resulting in a tie between Canopius’ Graham Nicholls and Atrium’s Russell Burrows.
The peer nomination-based survey was conducted by Insurindex, a joint venture between insurance research consultancy Gracechurch and Brandex, between March 2023 and May 2024.
In A&H, Canopius returned to lead the bench strength ranking, having held the top spot in 2019 and 2021.
Arch placed as runner-up, with Atrium (who won leading A&H carrier in 2022) in third. The bench strength table was rounded off with Axis, Hiscox, MS Amlin and QBE.
This year saw a tie for the top individual London A&H underwriter between Atrium’s head of A&H underwriting Burrows and Nicholls of Canopius.
The duo were followed by Hiscox’s Jason Innes and Axis’ Guy Bonwick, with the top five closed off with Adam Zawia from MS Amlin.
Gracechurch noted that Canopius was the only carrier with more than one nominated A&H underwriter in the individual shortlist.
