Alliant Re adds former Acrisure Re, Augment Risk broker Duffy as SVP

Alliant Re has appointed Terrence Duffy as senior vice president, with the reinsurance broking executive joining the intermediary following a short stint at rival start-up Augment Risk.

Based in Miami, Duffy most recently spent six months at Augment Risk, where he served as a director.

Before that, Duffy served as a senior vice president at Acrisure Re, where he spent 11 years. Earlier in his career, he held roles at Cooper Gay and Guy Carpenter.

Alliant Re was launched a little over a year ago exclusively as a facultative reinsurance broker. The addition of Duffy, who has a treaty background, could signal the broker’s intent to expand into offering treaty broking.

The unit was launched after the West Coast broker recruited a 26-strong facultative broking team from Aon, led by Nick Ambriano, Chris Medlicott and Mike O’Brien.

In an interview with The Insurer at this year’s RIMS RISKWORLD event in San Diego in May, Alliant’s Peter Arkley said Alliant Re will eventually expand into treaty.

Duffy’s appointment also comes as Alliant has made a flurry of hires within its retail broking operations.

Last month, Alliant appointed former Hub International vice president Todd Cormier as senior vice president within its Alliant Americas division.

Before that, Alliant added Mark Rusas as executive vice president and managing director and Pete Miraglia as an executive vice president within Alliant Specialty's M&A practice, with both executives joining from WTW.

In Late July, Alliant opened an office in Honolulu, Hawaii, with Chad Karasaki and Michael Grossi joining the new location from Aon as managing director and executive vice president, respectively.
