Ex-Validus exec Steinberg joins The Hartford as head of wholesale property
William Steinberg has joined The Hartford as head of wholesale property for Navigators, having previously worked at Validus Specialty Underwriters for five years.
Steinberg’s appointment follows the departure of Jim Wallace, who left his role as president of the US property E&S division at Navigators late last year to join Munich Re Specialty Insurance as head of property, excess and surplus lines, a move first revealed by The Insurer.
Steinberg will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and underwriting for wholesale property products, and managing relationships with wholesale distribution partners in the property space.
He will partner closely with Tim Ryan who leads the wholesale division for Navigators, the $2.2bn acquisition of which The Hartford closed in May 2019.
Steinberg was previously senior vice president and head of commercial property at AIG unit Validus Specialty Underwriters in Boston, where he built a commercial property E&S brokerage team.
Steinberg’s new role marks a return to The Hartford. He worked at First State Management Group for seven years before Beazley acquired it from The Hartford in 2009. He then worked at Beazley for five years.
Steinberg reports to Vince Tizzio, head of the global specialty business at The Hartford.
