President, RT Specialty - New York

Edward B. Pray serves as President of RT Specialty’s New York office, one of RT Specialty’s largest offices. Ed has been in the insurance industry for over four decades in both a wholesale and retail role.

Ed has been with RT Specialty since 2016, when RT acquired his firm, Hartan Brokerage, the New York-based independent wholesaler he founded in 1986. Under Ed’s leadership, Hartan had become a premier wholesale facility with an expertise in construction, in addition to all casualty lines, surety and large property placements.

Ed also began Hartan Specialty Programs (HSP), formed in 1999 as a separate division dedicated to the development of new programs operating as a Managing General Agent. HSP wrote in excess of $800,000,000 in premium between a construction program that operated as an MGA in over 20 states and an umbrella program that managed a risk purchasing group for real estate, in addition to a workers’ compensation program designed for small to midsize accounts.
