RB Jones bolsters marine team with Validus Specialty’s Trapani

Expansive HW Kaufman Group-owned MGU platform RB Jones has bolstered its marine and energy team with the hire of Toni Trapani from Validus Specialty, Program Manager can reveal.

Trapani will join RB Jones at the end of this month as product specialist, and in her new role will underwrite marine hull, liability and excess business, this publication understands.

Sources said she will also provide training and mentorship to her RB Jones colleagues, drawing on industry expertise and knowledge she has gained over a more than 25-year career in the insurance industry.

They said Trapani will also support the growth of new products the MGU is bringing to market.

Having joined RB Jones, Trapani will report to Tracy Markowski, the MGU’s underwriting manager for hull and liability.

Trapani will take on some of the largely marine liability-focused portfolio that was overseen by RB Jones managing director Mark Engel, along with some of Markowski’s book of hull and liability business.

The move frees up time for Engel to provide support across the RB Jones platform as it embarks on the next stage of its growth strategy, sources detailed.

Trapani brings over two decades of industry experience to RB Jones, and during her career has worked for Great American and USI, along with a lengthy stint at Marsh in the firm’s marine and upstream energy team.

She joined Validus Specialty in 2017, and most recently served the AIG-owned business as vice president within the platform’s marine and upstream energy team.
