Kemper swings to $60mn Q1 operating loss driven by auto “severity pressure”

Kemper has reported a $60.1mn adjusted consolidated net operating loss for the first quarter, compared with net operating income of $87.2mn in the prior year period, with the Chicago-based insurer’s P&C auto business continuing to face what management described as “significant incremental inflation-driven loss severity pressure”.
